113 <p>This year, the theme of LibrePlanet is "Free Software, Free Society."
114 How can free software protect journalists, whistleblowers, activists,
115 and regular computer users from government and corporate surveillance?
116 How can free software, or free software values like copyleft, community
117 development, and transparency, be used by people fighting to create free
118 societies around the world? What challenges are standing between us and
119 our goal of free software ubiquity? With your help, we'll tackle these
120 questions and more at LibrePlanet 2014.</p>
121 <p>LibrePlanet 2014 will be held thirty years after the GNU System was
122 launched. This is the perfect opportunity to take stock of where we've
123 been and where we're headed as a community. We're looking for session
124 proposals that embody the grassroot spirit of free software by:</p>

126 <li>Sharing a story of how free software has been applied for social
127 benefit</li>
128 <li>Tackling a threat or organizing challenge facing the free software
129 movement</li>
130 <li>Demonstrating a new and exciting piece of software or development
131 within an existing software project</li>
132 <li>Engaging youth, the future of the free software movement. We're
133 looking for proposals for all age groups, from young children, to high
134 school age, to college students</li>
135 <li>Thinking critically about challenges and opportunities facing the
136 movement, and charting a path to victory</li>

138 <li>Giving newcomers a way to learn about free software principles and
139 philosophy, and/or giving newcomers a way to start using free software

559 opportunity to talk about your software project, organizing effort,
560 licensing knowledge, or just something you've learned from using free
561 software, with time for discussion. Describe your proposal, your
562 background, how it relates to the conference theme, and what you hope
563 participants will gain from your presentation. </p>

568 people who want to engage deeply with a particular question, challenge,
569 or theme. Describe your proposal, how it relates to the conference
570 theme, and what you hope participants will gain from your presentation.
571 We encourage you to propose a full list of panelists from diverse
572 backgrounds. In addition to you own biography, please use the "Presenter
573 bio(s)" field to include biographical and contact information for each
574 panelist and indicate whether you have approached them about
575 participating in your panel. If accepted, we will work with you and
576 connect you with similar proposals. In some cases we may combine
577 proposals or add speakers to a proposed panel.</p>

582 more people who have an intersectional, interactive presentation to
583 share. Workshops take many formats – from software or hardware
584 demonstrations, to workshops for new contributors, to skillshares and
585 tutorials. If you are submitting a proposal for a workshop, please
586 describe the goals and take-aways for the session. In addition to you
