147 How can free software protect journalists, whistleblowers, activists,
148 and regular computer users from government and corporate surveillance?
149 How can free software, or free software values like copyleft, community
150 development, and transparency, be used by people fighting to create free
151 societies around the world? What challenges are standing between us and
152 our goal of free software ubiquity? With your help, we'll tackle these
153 questions and more at LibrePlanet 2014.</p>
154 <p>LibrePlanet 2014 will be held thirty years after the GNU System was
155 launched. This is the perfect opportunity to take stock of where we've
156 been and where we're headed as a community. We're looking for session
157 proposals that embody the grassroot spirit of free software by:</p>

159 <li>Sharing a story of how free software has been applied for social
160 benefit</li>
161 <li>Tackling a threat or organizing challenge facing the free software
162 movement</li>
163 <li>Demonstrating a new and exciting piece of software or development
164 within an existing software project</li>
165 <li>Engaging youth, the future of the free software movement. We're
166 looking for proposals for all age groups, from young children, to high
167 school age, to college students</li>
168 <li>Thinking critically about challenges and opportunities facing the
169 movement, and charting a path to victory</li>
170 <li>Bringing a key part of free software history to life</li>
171 <li>Giving newcomers a way to learn about free software principles and
172 philosophy, and/or giving newcomers a way to start using free software
173 in their daily lives</li>
